Port Orillia to Big Chute Lock 44 – Wed. July 6, 2022. Posted on July 7, 2022 by Blue Yonder We entered the narrow channel and found the railroad swing bridge with vertical clearance of 14′ . We need 21′ to clear so we honked 3 short times to let the bridge master know we were there and please open the bridge for us. We waited one hour in the channel with current and shallow water. Finally the train passed and the bridge swung open. The terrain started to change with cliffs and granite rocks. We entered Swift Falls lock 43. No kidding swift falls and current. Arrived at Big Chute, the marine railway lift expecting to enter this unique lock. We waited patiently to be placed in haul out straps onto a carriage to be lifted over the road and into the water. But found out staffing is out sick and we must wait another day…or two. Flexibility, patience… We stayed at the marina nearby and enjoyed our view from the boat and wait until tomorrow…or so… Looking forward to Georgian Bay soon.
We are seeing more granite rocks which are interesting with some cottages built around the landscape. Reply
Way to be so patient and flexible!
Good observation on the change of terrain!
