We started sailing at 6 AM from the Alligator River Marina to make good use of the favorable southerly winds on the Albemarle Sound. So grateful. 20 miles on this shallow, large body of water and we were in the town of Elizabeth City to clear the city bridge upon request. All went well and we were in the swamp for many twists and turns in the River leading to the Dismal Swamp So. Mills Lock.
Made good use of the fender boards for the lock.
Quiet Friday on the Dismal Swamp. Never saw another boat on the Swamp coming or going.
What a day! We had the Albemarle Sound, bridges, the lock, logs, and a beautiful day. Stayed the night in the Swamp on one of a few free docks next to the Dismal Swamp Canal bike path. Tremendous moments.
Really neat sites and experiences!
Amazing you didn’t see any other boats, especially with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend!
Perfect to end with day with a bike ride!
Quite the adventure remember when John and Nolan brought the sailboat up we bought from Hartford, North Carolina to Virginia Beach,Virginia going the same way from the sound to Elizabeth City through the dismal Swamp to Norfolk and as I shared with you Nolan got off where that one lock was when I brought them some gas John will probably share more with you all if y’all have dinner this evening I will miss being there 😊
Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures.
It was amazing we saw no other boats for two days…on the Albemarle Sound crossing and the Dismal Swamp
