Beautiful, serene cruise on the Pungo River Canal as we began early for our big day of 83 mi in 10 hours including crossing the Albermarle Sound.
Alligator River leads into the Albermarle Sound and along the way we passed a barge. Winds and waves started to pick up. Fortunately with stabilizers, which smoothes out the chop, it was okay for our 20 mile crossing.
The Alligator River Swinging Bridge has a span of 263 feet to open. Fortunately, we were one of three boats asking for an opening at about the same time.
In the distance, one can see the bridge which is almost 3 miles long and was built in 1960.
On the right is our marina for the evening, a 1200 foot linear dock. We were asked to dock behind the trawler 2nd in line.
We ate dinner at their delicious marina restaurant. It is the locals’ favorite…packed on this Friday night…in the middle of nowhere… Fun..
Big day! 10 hours! Good work!
Good timing with the Alligator River Swinging Bridge. Did you see alligators?
Thank you. No alligators seen yet.
A wonderful trip y’all are having.
You really are doing a great job sharing!
Thank you, Shirley. Always an adventure on Blue Yonder. She has been running very well. John has worked hard to make this happen.
