Grand Harbor – layover day. Tues. Oct. 25, 2022 Posted on October 25, 2022 by Blue Yonder Right at the location of three states…Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. Entering the “Divide Cut” and the man made canal to Mobile on the Tennessee- Tombigbee Waterway. A bigger project than the Panama Canal, this waterway saves a vessel 720 miles via the Tenn- Tom from Pensacola to Chattanooga instead of sailing the lower Mississippi when northbound. Completed in 1985. We have seen many bald eagles since St. Louis. Our porch view from our boat. Later in the evening a huge barge passed by on its way to the Tennessee River to Pickwick Lock northbound. Yesterday we saw many homes on Pickwick Lake with trolleys to help with the steep stairs. This trolley is on the top. Visited the Corinth, MS Interpretive Center…highlighting the Civil War Battle of Shiloh. The important railroad crossing was the prize. The Mobile and Ohio Railroad crossed the Memphis and Charleston Railroad, the longest standard-gauge railroads in the Western Theater. Controlling Corinth was key! Abe’s Grill in Corinth. Best burgers and biscuits around. Wind and rain today made the layover a good decision. Yesterday’s sunset.
Strong advisory winds! Glad you could enjoy a nice layover! Your sunset yesterday looked so calm, like glass. The Corinth railroad crossing was so interesting! Incredibly steep with the trolleys along Lake Pickwick! Kind of like the trolley stairs system at Lake Wedowee but much steeper! Reply
