Kimmswick, Missouri @ Hoppies Barge “Marina” Sun. Oct. 16, 2022 Posted on October 17, 2022 by Blue Yonder River was opened after a barge blocked the Mississippi River. Traveled 43 miles from Alton, Illinois to Kimmswick, Missouri. Nice sunrise in Alton this morning. Eleven of us pleasure crafts were together to lock through . Waiting an hour for the lock to open for us.. Barge locking northbound. In the lock with the gate rising. The floating bollard we tie up to descend lock wall. Saying goodbye to the lockmaster. Our boat passing the St. Louis Arch. A boater took this. Arriving at the barge marina. A family started this “marina” in 1935 in the middle of no services of the Mississippi River. It gave us pleasure craft vessels somewhere to stop. Visited this estate right on the river. One can see how low the river has gotten. Happy to have made another day on the Loop.
Awesome picture of Blue Yonder and the St. Louis Arches!! Helpful to have 11 of you together to get through the locks and form a community in the “marina.” Reply
Thank you. It was a lucky photo! A fellow boater took it for us. We saw them later at the barge marina called Hoppies and he emailed it to us. Reply
