Started our northward journey through beautiful cypress tree lined swamps with osprey nests on the ICW markers. It was serene for hours. Mid morning – One call on the radio was from a 52 foot sport fishing boat taking on water in the bilge, with engine disabled, 4 adults, one child on board. Later on captain on board isolated problem, called tow boat to take them to closest marina for haul out. Coast Guard does not save your boat, just the people on the boat. Here is a sailboat at our marina that ignored a low bridge…mast broke. Oops.
As we approached Myrtle Beach more boats and jet skiis were on the narrow, shallow channel. Then what was ahead? A “Riverboat Queen”. Oh no. How does this work? Where did this come from? Fortunately we passed without going aground. Soon we found our marina for the night, Barefoot Landing Marina…linear dock for transient boats like us…Another successful day. Phew.
Interesting and exciting day for you! From rescue calls on the radio, broken mast of a sail boat, and Riverboat Queen to osprey and the marina. Love reading your narrative and seeing your pictures. Thanks for posting!
Yes. It was quiet and then it was not- as we approached Myrtle Beach. We have all kinds of sea stories for “docktale” time.
Such an exciting adventure to follow. Thx for sharing, Ann. Enjoying the trip without getting seasick😊
Thank you. Enjoying the Intracoastal Waterway. It is quite the “RV” trip.
