Left our anchorage this morning and are anchored right near West End. Planning for a Gulf stream crossing tomorrow to Ft. Pierce, FL.
Gulf Stream is 40 or so miles wide with a 3 – 5 mph northern current.
Safely tucked into our anchorage for the night.
Really interesting learning about the Gulf Stream as a global weather machine, or “highway of heat transport.”
First charted in 1770!
The Gulf Stream has helped ancient and present day mariners cruise up the eastern coast and on to Iceland and Europe. It also warms England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland for their relative latitude.
Great metaphor- the current as a ‘highway of heat transport’
Are there cold highways?
Probably so… but not sure.
you two are amazing! The Blue Yonder is marvelous ! You teach us about life at sea, The Gulf Stream and all its implications. The pictures are great and the photo of the two of you is absolutely beautiful, young, energetic, adventurous. Keep dreaming and sailing.
You are unique! Love Cecilia C. Lee
Hi Cecilia, Thank you very much for your inspiring words. We have had to learn so much with Blue Yonder our instructor. She taught us to be patient, vigilant, studious, attentive, savoring the moment at hand. We are so thrilled we had the courage to say yes to the opportunities Blue Yonder has presented. All the best a mi profesora y su familia ❤
